Citizens’ High School has been accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC formally known as DETC) for more than 30 years. The Distance Education Accrediting Commission is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
The Secretary of Education is required by law to publish a list of nationally recognized accrediting agencies that the Secretary determines to be reliable authorities as to the quality of education provided by the institutions of higher education. An agency seeking recognition by the Secretary must meet the Secretary’s procedures and criteria for the recognition of accrediting agencies.
Upon accreditation, and every five years, the Accrediting Commission of the DEAC ensures an institution has:
- An approved program of study
- Qualified teachers and academic support services
- Learning and research resources
- Administrative capacity
- Ethical business practices
- Acceptable admissions standards, and
- The financial capacity to operate on a sound financial basis

Council for Higher
The Accrediting Commission of the DEAC is a recognized member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).CHEA is a private nonprofit national organization that coordinates accreditation activity in the United States. It carries forward a long tradition that recognition of accrediting organizations should be a key strategy to ensure quality, accountability, and improvement in higher education. Recognition by CHEA affirms that standards and processes of accrediting organizations are consistent with quality, improvement, and accountability expectations that CHEA has established.
Department of Education
The Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education recognizes the Distance Education Accrediting Commission DEAC. Accrediting agencies recognized by the Secretary meet certain criteria, the institutions accredited by those agencies meet standards that address the quality of an institution and its programs. An accrediting agency that meets the Department’s criteria for recognition is determined to be a reliable authority in measuring the quality of education or training provided by the institutions it accredits in the United States and its territories. Agencies that meet these criteria are placed on the Department’s List of Nationally Recognized Accrediting Agencies.

In addition, Citizens’ is registered as a private high school in Florida, and is in compliance with Florida Statutes requiring the yearly completion of the Florida Department of Education’s Nonpublic School Annual Survey. Citizens’ is shown as part of the alphabetical listing in the Florida Department of Education Directory of Nonpublic Schools, under District: Clay County, as school number 1345.

The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (Middle States Association or M.S.A.) is a voluntary, peer-based, non-profit association that performs peer evaluation and regional accreditation of public and private secondary/high schools and elementary schools in the Mid-Atlantic United States.
